2016, Experimental ParasitologyCitation Excerpt :An increase of the expression level of ENA-78 was found in IECs of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (MacDermott, 1999). Some studies also found IL-8 production existed for only a short time, while ENA-78 lasted for a long time after the downregulation of IL-8 secretion (Yang et al., 1997). These data indicated that IL-8 and ENA-78 take part in the whole stage of mucosal inflammation, and they may be important in contributing to the immune response pattern of T. spiralis infection.

Finally, consumption of L. rhamnosus GG in this study was associated with induction of the cytokine-encoding genes CCL24, CCL2, and CXCL3 that are especially effective in stimulating Th1 responses (Yang et al., 1997). The observed up-regulation of several IFN-induced genes and STAT4 further emphasizes that consumption of L. rhamnosus may have promoted expression of genes that stimulate Th1 effector-cell development (Korman et al., 2008; Steinman, 2007).
